Renton 72 Hour Booking Records
Renton 72 Hour Booking records list people taken into custody by the Renton Police Department over the last three days. The city sits in south King County, and Renton officers do not run a long-term jail. They book and then move arrestees to the King County Jail in Seattle or to the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. To find a recent booking, you can search the King County jail roster or call Renton Police Records at (425) 430-7500. This page shows where to look, what shows up on a booking log, and how to ask for a full report.
Renton Booking Records Overview
Where to Find Renton 72 Hour Booking Records
The Renton Police Department books people at 1055 S. Grady Way and then moves them out of the city. There is no public Renton booking log on the city site. The fastest way to find a recent arrest is the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention. King County runs the JILS subject lookup tool, which lists everyone in custody at the King County Correctional Facility in Seattle and the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. You can search by last name, first name, or booking number.
Most Renton arrestees show up in JILS within a few hours of booking. The system shows the booking date, the charge, the bail amount, and the next court date. You can reach JILS through the King County Sheriff site or use the direct lookup at dajd-jms.powerappsportals.us. The lookup is free. No login is needed.
For a deeper request, call Renton Police Records at (425) 430-7500. Staff can confirm if a person was booked by Renton officers and route you to the right report. Police records are public under RCW 42.56, the Washington Public Records Act, with some narrow holdbacks for active cases.
The Renton Police Department posts contact info, alerts, and records request steps on its main site. You can see the page at rentonwa.gov.
Use that page to start a public records request or to get the non-emergency line for the records unit.
How the Renton Jail Roster Works
Renton does not keep a jail roster of its own. The roster you want is the King County one. King County uses the Jail Information Locator System, known as JILS. The system pulls data from both the downtown Seattle facility and the Kent justice center. Anyone in custody for 72 hours or more shows up there. People held for shorter times may also appear, since the system updates as bookings happen.
The roster shows the full name, the date of birth, the booking date and time, the listed charges, the court the case is set in, and the bail amount. It does not show mug shots. It does not show prior history. For a prior history check, you have to use the Washington State Patrol record service at wsp.wa.gov/crime/criminal-history. WSP runs the WATCH system and charges a small fee.
Note: King County updates the JILS roster many times a day, so a name that does not show up at noon may appear by the evening.
What Appears on a Renton Booking Record
A 72 hour booking record gives you the basic facts of the arrest. The file at the jail has more. Most of what is on a booking sheet is open to the public under state law.
You can expect to see:
- Full legal name and any known aliases
- Date of birth and city of residence
- Date and time of booking
- Arresting agency, in this case Renton Police
- Charge or charges filed at booking
- Bail amount and court date
- Holding location
Booking is not the same as a charge. The prosecutor still has to file a formal case. Some people are released within hours and never face a charge in court. The jail record shows only what was true at the moment of booking.
Public Records Requests in Renton
You can ask for a Renton police report under RCW 42.56. Send the request to the Renton Police Records Unit at 1055 S. Grady Way, Renton, WA 98057. You can also call (425) 430-7500 and ask for the records unit. The agency must respond within five business days. That first response may be the report itself, a fee quote, or a notice that more time is needed.
Jail records are governed in part by RCW 70.48.100, which sets out what booking data the public can see. Some items, like medical info or active probe details, are kept back. The Criminal Records Privacy Act in RCW 10.97 also limits how some criminal history can be shared. The Municipal Research and Services Center has a guide for cities at mrsc.org that walks through the rules.
Note: Renton Municipal Court at 1055 S. Grady Way handles arraignments for many local cases and you can reach the court at (425) 430-6500.
Court and Case Lookup for Renton Bookings
After a Renton booking, the case may go to one of three courts. Misdemeanor cases tied to city code go to Renton Municipal Court. Other cases go to King County District Court. Felony cases go to King County Superior Court in Seattle or at the Maleng Regional Justice Center. You can search statewide case data on the Washington Courts site or use the Odyssey Portal. The Find My Court Date tool at dw.courts.wa.gov is a quick way to look up an upcoming hearing by name.
For people who are still under state supervision, the Department of Corrections has its own search at doc.wa.gov/information/inmate-search. The DOC also runs a warrant search for people who skipped supervision. Both tools are free.
